The Classic

This is the one to take if you want to understand Czech food rather than just try it. We cook a whole dinner: the soup everyone argues about, the sauce that takes the longest, and the dumplings that look impossible until you have made them once. Then we sit down and spend an hour eating it.

What you'll cook

  1. Chlebíčky

    Open sandwiches, the thing every Czech family puts out for guests. We make them while the wine is being poured.

  2. Kulajda

    A creamy soup of dill, potato and wild mushrooms with a poached egg dropped in. Sour, herby, and not much like anything you have eaten before.

  3. Svíčková na smetaně

    The national dish: beef in a root-vegetable cream sauce, with bread dumplings, cranberries and a spoon of whipped cream. Everyone here has an opinion about it, and by the end of the evening so will you.

  4. Švestkové knedlíky

    Plum dumplings under melted butter, poppy seed and sugar. Simple, seasonal, and the reason people ask for the recipe.

Good to know

Come hungry, and wear something you do not mind splashing. We are on our feet for most of the first two hours, so comfortable shoes help. The menu shifts a little with the season. If the plums are not right, we make something that is.
