Your host
I'm Bret, and this is my kitchen
I have been cooking in Prague for years and teaching it for most of them. A few thousand guests, most of them American, and most of them nervous about dumplings. What I have learned is that nobody remembers a lecture. They remember the evening they made svíčková badly, laughed about it, and ate it anyway. So we cook together, standing up, with a glass in reach. I explain why Czech food looks the way it does: why the sauce is sweet, why the dumpling is bread, why everyone here has an opinion about their grandmother's version. Then we sit down at one table and eat what we made.

What an evening looks like
No surprises, and no standing around watching somebody else cook.
You arrive
A glass of Moravian wine, an apron, and introductions around the table. A small enough group that everyone actually meets.
We look at the food
What we are making, where it comes from, and why it matters here. Ten minutes, not a lecture.
You cook
Everyone gets a station and a knife. I move between them. You will do the parts that seem hard, the sauce and the dumplings, because those are the parts worth learning.
We sit down
One long table, everything you made, and more of it than you expect. This is the part guests write about afterwards.
You go home with it
Printed recipe cards, measured in cups as well as grams, and a slivovitz for the road if you want one.
What's included
- Every ingredient, and an apron to borrow
- A full meal: starter, main, dessert
- Moravian wine, Czech beer, and a slivovitz toast
- Recipe cards in cups and grams, to take home
- Vegetarian, gluten-free and allergy swaps, with notice
- Soft drinks and coffee throughout
What guests say
Bret's Table is new, so this space is honest rather than full. Reviews from our first guests will appear here as they come in, and on Tripadvisor, Viator and GetYourGuide alongside them.
Questions people ask
I cannot really cook. Is that a problem?
No. Most people who come have never made a dumpling in their life, and the class is built for exactly that. If you can hold a knife, you will keep up.
I'm vegetarian, or I have an allergy.
Tell us when you book and we will cook around it. Vegetarian, gluten-free, nut-free and most other things are straightforward with a few days’ notice. Czech food is more flexible than its reputation suggests.
Can we bring our children?
To the Family Table, yes. It is designed for them. The Classic runs in the evening at an adult pace, so it suits older teenagers and up.
How much food is it, really?
It is dinner. A starter, a full main course and a dessert, plus whatever we taste along the way. Do not book a restaurant for afterwards.
What if our plans change?
Cancel free up to 24 hours before and you are refunded in full. Travel days go wrong; that is not something you should pay for.
Where exactly are you?
In Karlín, a ten-minute ride from the Old Town and worth the trip on its own, because it is where people in Prague actually eat. Full directions and a map are in your confirmation email.
